Golden King

I was expecting a small local Chinese restaurant and was really surprised of its size, being twice the size a regular local Chinese restaurant would be. Friday nights are quite full with nearly no available tables left, forcing customers to wait.

The food itself wasn’t what I was expecting which was traditional Chinese food. Although there were various dishes, very few stood out. Of those that did, all had an ‘aussie styled’ taste to them when compared to the same dish prepared by a different restaurant.

When we ordered, we were surprised that it costed less than it was advertised. The amount of food advertised for 4-6 people filled the 5 of us up.

In terms of service, they mixed up one of our orders but otherwise very good. Overall the food was alright, though not the best place to go for Chinese food. For myself nothing special but its good value here

Brunetti's cafe in Melbourne

During January, me and a couple of friends went to Melbourne for a short trip! We went to a few of the cafes/restaurants there and one of them was brunetti's! Unfortunately there isn't one in Sydney which made me sad because the sweets and delicacies that they were offering there were all soo APPETISING!!

We went there during the morning and had a selection of sweets and coffee with it too! The place is pretty popular, with all the seats taken pretty quickly!

Some of the more popular treats included: jam tarts, croissants, strawberry tarts, brownies, eclairs, scones and a range of cakes!

I personally ordered a few of the macarons (it was my first time trying them!!!) and a strawberry tart (because i have a personal obsession with them)

To be honest i think the price range for this cafe was quite affordable! Not as expensive as Koko Black! I'd definately come again to Brunetti's if i ever go back to Melbourne for another trip!

Bavarian Beer Cafe #2

I just read up on one of Lily's post and realised that the restaurant i recently went to to celebrate a friends 20th birthday was infact the Bavarian Beer Cafe that she posted about! how silly of me not to have noticed earlier haha.

It was so much more crowded than i expected! The food was GORGEOUS though! absolutely fantastic, no wonder the whole place had so many people. Alot of birthdays were held that night too, we could tell from the amount of shots of alcohol that was being announced. (i wasnt sure how that worked but every 30min the waiters/waitresses ring a massive bell carrying a shot of alcohol on a really long holder and the birthday boy/girl has to drink it haha).

Me and the people i was with ordered a range of things that night! From chips to roasted pork to the meat tasting platter to a VERY rich chocolate dessert that another friend ordered!

Here are some photos from the night!

Pho76

Pho 76 is a local restaurant in the Western suburbs that serves Vietnamese and Chinese cuisines. Its location is convenient for locals who do not wish to travel a great distance to find great Vietnamese/Chinese foods.

Their menu offers a large variety, that ranges from soups to numerous dishes with rice. With it's great food and competitive prices, it makes this restaurant too popular and often people find themselves waiting for a table outside the restaurant. However, the restaurant does provide bookings for those in large groups.

Like Yumcha and most Asian restaurants the meals are accompanied with tea. The dish I had was Curry chicken with bread on the side, which is seen below. Considering it was a cold day this dish was a fulfilling meal. It contained pieces of chicken and soft potatoes that were immersed within the warm curry soup, which is well suited with the bread.

Overall, the atmosphere in Pho 76 was very lively with many customers satisfied with their meal.

Guylian Cafe

ok i thought i should do a post without so much meat this time since i dont see many others posting on this page, it cant all be meat =P

So last Thursday i went to the Guylian Cafe at darling harbour. Yes its a bit girly but i was with a girl so its ok ^^
Ok so pretty much its like a max brenner except the dishes arnt as sweet and so full on. Their chocolates are more mild and creamy which i liked. They had a wide variety of cookies and cakes as well (image below);
Their cakes are amazing. Its so soft that it melts in your mouth and it tastes great.
I really recommend this place to take your girlfriend or someone you like on a date ;)

Just to cut it short, there were 2 dishes that i really enjoyed. Waffles being one (cant go wrong!) and a small cake. I hope you guys enjoy and maybe see you guys there!

Koko Black

Located in the heart of Melbourne's historic Royal Arcade, this cafe lounge is open to lovers of everything chocolate! I went here on my trip to melbourne in January and i loved the atmosphere! It was relatively cosy and you could even smell the scents of chocolate everywhere. It is pretty well known in Melbourne and is seemingly always busy!

We definately needed a chocolate hit that day as we were feeling very tired it DEFINATELY put us back into a good mood for the rest of the day!

There were two main levels to this cafe, the first level mainly selling blocks of chocolate and other chocolate related delicacies, while the second level centered around a cafe/lounge area that offered a variety of chocolate and cocoa platters and tantalising drinks which included coffee and cold drinks.

However in comparison to other cafe's i've been to the affordablity of this cafe was a bit pricey for my taste (yes.... i'm a very cheap person unfortunately haha). The food was really tasty though!!

Some of the things we ordered on the day!

I think this was a strawberry iced chocolate, it was such a large size compared to what we thought we'd recieve!

One of my friend's chocolate platters which was also served with coffee

Another tasting platter which apparently was very rich in flavour but also very good!

This is what i ordered! I know... not very chocolatey since i went to a CHOCOLATE BASED cafe, but i guess i wasn't feeling like stuffing myself with rich rich chocolate. The croissant was centered in chocolate though!!

Meat #3 Korean BBQ

This place is literally called "Korean BBQ" folks and i am not lying. Heres proof:
Anyways back onto the food, this place was great. Besides the fact that its only at Melbourne the food was top notch. service was good and the food/meat was fresh. Its located in Box Hill and Carnegie at melbourne. if you guys are familiar with it, definately try it. Worth the trip =]

When i was there, i decided to order just normal korean bbq meat as i wasnt too interested in this restaurant (im korean and im picky with my korean restaurants =P). But when i got my order i found the food and the service was fabulous. Heres some of the dishes i had =]

They had AMAZING side dishes. Normal korean bbq stores give you roughly 5-6 side dishes but as you can see they filled up our table. It wasnt because the food was bad and they had left overs but it was pure service which was really nice. You'll notice the meat is really fresh. Non of that frozen stuff =]
So when youre in Melbourne or youre near by, i recommend checking it out!

Meat Lovers #2 Pancakes on the rocks

So last friday i decided to go to pancakes on the rocks. expecting pancakes and boring salads only to find a nice meat selection.

THEY HAD STEAK AND RIBS!!!

They had Ribs:

Not to mention Steak:

I had a fantastic time of course thanks to this menu =]
The Price was roughly about $25 for dish but much worth the money.

I recommend this place for both males and females as it has both stomach and eye food :D

Ariano Zumbo!!!

Ever heard of Ardiano Zumbo from master chef Australia? Well his cafe/bakeries are a must visit if your a sucker for a sweet cake ;)

This year I've paid a few visits after all the raves about this place, and must I say i was quite impressed from the amount of people who waits to purchase these items. I visited on 2 different days, and one of the days it was all sold out by the time of only 12pm. If you think of other bakeries that can close by 12pm because all the cakes instore has been sold out, then you can definitely tell how popular this place must be!

So they sell a variety of cakes, breads and of course, their most famous procession the macaroons! So what did i do there when i got in, of course went straight to their wide variety of macaroons which differed from crazy flavours like wasabi and ginger to the more gereralised ones such as chocolate, pinelime and orange and etc.

Other interesting cakes variety was also shown! I purchased a passionfruit tart which was simply devine, and my friend had purchased a pistachio cake and many other things!!

Here are some eye candies of the variety we bought!

(As you can see we went a little crazy over the amount of purchases we made hehe)

Until next time, enjoy :)

Japanese Food

Hi everyone!

It's susy here, and a huge welcome to our food blog created by myself, Lily, Eddie and James!

One of my favourite foods to date is japanese food! It isn't something that i would usually eat at home and thus the appeal! I like sushi in particular however my liking for it has lowered after having a bad experience with it which made me sick!

Two weeks ago i met up with a friend of mine and we decided to go eat japanese, we ended up choosing a restaurant called "Kura". The menu contained a variety of dishes, some of which included rice, udon, ramen noodles, soba noodles, sushi and miso soup.

Most noodle dishes in japanese food consists of soy sauce, miso wish ground sesame or dashi. The combination of a variety of sauces mixed with different ingredients is what gives japanese food it's great taste!

Here are a few photos from the night of the food we ended up choosing!

This was my dish! it consisted of beef, onions, egg and rice!

My friend's dish consisted of udon noodles, egg, seaweed and shallots

What type of dining do you like?

Hey everyone, so what type of dining experience do you like? Should it be Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, German or Italian and etc. You name it and we can arrange to deliver some of our different types of food we love.

Make sure you comment below for ideas!

Yumcha

As a Chinese heritage person, there is no better way to start their day than with Yumcha with the family or friends to enjoy good food along with chatter to catch up with the close ones.

The famous foods surrounding yumcha ranges from crispy golden spring rolls, to chicken feet and etc which many could either adore to death, or freaked to life. However yumcha is not just a great tradition for most Chinese people to follow, but it has introduced fans from people of different heritage such as Westerners and other Asian countries.

The famous list of yumcha food could go on forever, but this top 5 list of my yumcha favourites are a little guide to what you could order the next time you arrive at a yumcha place near you!

#1. Prawn Rice Noodles (Chern fun)
My absolute favourite dish in yumcha, is the prawn rice noodles served with sweet soy sauce. This is an absolute essentials dish to order! And never fear even if you don't like prawns, there is always other options such as beef, bbq pork, plain, vegetarian or with the deep fried bread stick.

#2. Deep fried balls with pork mince fillings (Harm sull gork)
Next dish is a crispy deep fried dish which is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The ball is made from glutinous flour so it is a very chewy and soft texture on the inside, and the savory pork mince elevates the tastes of this dish even more.

#3: Prawn Dumplings (Har gaw)
A transparent skinned dumpling which is absolutely define! Comes in different fillings again if you do not like prawns you can opp for other ones such as scallops, spinach, bean curds and etc.

#4: Chicken Feet (Fong jiaw)
The famous red chicken feet which is one of the most famous and unique dishes to yumcha is a very nice treat for those who are not scared of trying something special. Although it may sound a little disgusting from it's name, this dish scores very high taste points as it has a very special sauce that makes this dish absolutely delicious!

#5: Egg Tart (Darn Tart)
The famous dessert of a yumcha environment does not necessarily feel the same without a taste of egg tart in each restaurant. These simple tarts filled with eggs is simply define for people like me who has a sweet tooth.

Hope these tips could help you at your next experience at yumcha if you are feeling clueless on what you should order! :)

Layout of our blog

The reason why this layout was chosen was because the group consists of 2 boys and 2 girls, we both agreed to nothing too girl-y like pink layout or something too boring like black and white. So this layout is chosen as it gives a little simple yet sophisticated approach to our blog which will be about a little food blog on delicious food we love.
